Internship Procedure

 

Internships for academic credit add a significant workplace experience to a student's education. Students earn a total of 5 ECTS of academic credit for their internships. They gain valuable "on the job" work experience related to a chosen focus in electrical and electronics engineering applications. In addition, internships permit students to interact with professionals in the fields of work in which they may one day have careers.

Students must complete a 30 business-day (6 weeks) summer practice in a company working in the field of electrical and electronics engineering on a part-time basis (4 hours per day). If the company accepts a student for a total of 30 days (which makes around 20 business-days), the student must work for at least 6 hours per day. At the end of the internship period, students are supposed to complete at least 120 hours.

The requirement for the acceptance of the internship is the Internship Coordinator's consent confirmed by his signing the following form (BOS, ENG). Observations from internship must be documented and presented in the form of a clear and concise technical report (Internship Notebook), which the student brings to the Internship Committee for evaluation. The company must send two more documents to the University's address via post: Company's Evaluation of the Student (BOS, ENG) and The Internship Acceptance Form. The former directly affects the student's grade from this course, whereas the latter serves as a proof and acknowledgement that the student has really done the internship.

Students are expected to learn about a real business and work environment and get involved in many aspects of hardware development process. In addition, students are generally expected to:

  • Begin to work effectively as part of a team, developing interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills within a managed environment, exercising some personal responsibility.
  • Apply theory, techniques and relevant tools to the specification, analysis, design, implementation and testing of a simple engineering product;
  • Actively participate in, reflect on, and begin to take responsibility for, personal learning and development;

An internship student


The course "EEE 300 Internship" is registered in the 5th semester (1st semester in the 3rd year). We advise students to do the internship during the summer break between the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 5th semester. There are several reasons for this decision:

  • After the completion of the first two semesters, students usually do not have enough technical knowledge for doing the internship. Taking the internship in this period will not have the desired outcome for the student.
  • Postponing the internship to the summer break after the 6th semester means that the student can graduate in as early as September which may ruin his (her) plans for seeking appropriate job or Master program.
  • Doing the internship before the beginning of the 5th semester gives the Chairman committee enough time to appropriately judge and mark the internship report


International Burch University helps students find the internship opportunity they will enjoy and from which they will learn a lot. The University can also facilitate the process of getting the internship opportunities in some domestic companies. However, the number of such available companies is limited and cannot satisfy the needs of all students from our department. Therefore, students are advised to fully engage in seeking the appropriate internship opportunity for themselves. The University is not obliged to provide a student with the company to do internship, but will always guide the student so that he (she) finds one easier and faster. The best practice in the previous years was to search for such companies in the student's birth place or the place of residence and its surroundings.

The strating point for the Internship application is to fill out the application form and send it to the Internship Coordinator via e-mail, after which the form is signed and sealed. In the meantime, a student can collect the required documents stated in the application form. The student then brings the documents to the Internship Coordinator and they are sent to a company together with the application form. If the company answers positively the the request, the student is required to submit his/her CV to Career Office.
