In May 2017, students from Department of Electrical and Electronics engineering at International Burch university accompanied by professors and TAs had a chance to visit small hydro power plant mHE KRALJUŠČICA 2, large hydro power plant HE JABLANICA, photovoltaic power station near Mostar/Stolac, and wind farm VE RUDINE near Dubrovnik. The two-day trip took place on May 11 and proved to be a great success due to the enthusiastic input from the students and our professors, and the continuing support from the Burch university and Department of Electrical and Electronics engineering.
The purpose of the educational trip was to provide students with practical and theoretical experience of the power generation units in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially the ones which are classified as non-conventional in the theory of power generation and ones characterized as units of renewable energy sources. These technologies are attractive nowadays all around globe as they will become integral and main part in the concept of Smart Grid.
A visit to wind farm in Dubrovnik was primary focus of this trip, since MS students are currently listening to many courses related to renewable energy and distributed generation, so this was a chance for them to see certain aspects of it in real world and to give students a well-rounded foundation upon which to build their knowledge for future careers in this sector.
Many thanks to our professors; assoc. prof. dr. Mustafa Musić, dr. Ajla Merzić, assist. prof. dr. Jasmin Kevrić, assist. prof. dr. Jasna Hivziefendić, Mr. Adnan Bosović, M.Sc., Ms. Mehrija Hasičić, M.Sc. and Ms. Lejla Bandić, M.Sc. for their generous support and inexhaustible energy, patience and willingness to guide students.
We are sure that memories of this trip will last long and such trips are important because they are a welcome break in the routine of teaching and they can also be a fun bonding experience for everyone involved. New educational environments and experiences were possible so we had the opportunity to observe many things that are not available at university, assuring broadening horizons completely.
